There’s a tradition behind the matching bridesmaid dress that has nothing to do with color coordination. Centuries ago, bridesmaids dressed to look like the bride herself — the idea being that anyone with ill intentions toward the bride wouldn’t be able to tell who she was. The custom outlived the superstition, and bringing your closest people in to shop together has simply become one of the most anticipated days of the entire process.

Timing matters more than most brides expect. Bridesmaid gowns typically need five to six months between order and final alterations, so the right time to book is once your own gown is on order — usually six to nine months before the wedding.

Have the budget conversation before you book, not during the appointment. It’s the detail most brides skip, and the one that causes the most stress in a fitting room; a quick heads-up on price range, keeps everyone shopping the same lane.

Keep the shopping group to four or six if you can. Bigger parties mean more opinions and less time for each person to actually be seen and fitted well. And if you want the day to feel like an occasion rather than an errand, ask about reserving one of our larger suites.
